A Little Sprinkling of Valentine's Cheer!

I don't normally do a lot of decorating for Valentine's Day, but this year I had fun putting together a little table scape in sweet pea's playroom.  The garland on the window is just a pack of flat heart cards that I found in the dollar spot at Target.  I hung them on a piece of string with tiny clothespins.

I took some inspiration from the ladies over at At the Picket Fence to make these adorable little envelope chair backs.  The only thing I had to purchase was the dish towels which came in a pack of 2 for $2.50 in the dollar spot at Target.  I have been eyeing the chair backs at Pottery Barn Kids for a couple of years now, but am glad I saved myself some money by making my own.

With the help of sweet pea I also put together this little runner for her table with some leftover drop cloth from a previous project.  I just cut it to my desired length and width then let her help me make hand print hearts. I also cut out some felt hearts and glued them on, then got out my trusty puffy paint wrote the word "LOVE" at both ends and traced around the hand prints to make them look more finished.  It's not perfect by any means but she and I both love it!

Here is what her envelope will look like all stuffed on Valentine's Day. She is gonna be so excited!

I picked these flowers up at the grocery store the other day to add a little Valentine color to the kitchen.  I just used some ribbon I picked up from the dollar spot and taped it around the mason jars.  I think they turned out pretty cute, and they make me smile every time I walk into the kitchen.

Does anyone else out there do much decorating for Valentine's Day?  I am looking forward to next week because sweet pea and I have some fun treats to make for her class and teachers that I hope to share with you.  Until then hope everyone has a blessed day, BYE!

Snow Day!

I have been pretty behind on my posts since the holidays, but I am hoping to play catch up this month and then get back to a regular schedule by February (fingers crossed!).  I wanted to share these sweet pics of my little sweet pea and her Nana playing in the snow that we received a few days after Christmas.  Hope you enjoy!

We haven't received any more snow since this day, and this past weekend it got up to 70 degrees, weird!  I don't think I can deal with this up and down weather again this winter, I just want it to stay cold for a while to get rid of all the nasty germs that are causing everyone to be so sick!  Hopefully we will have some more of that white stuff so sweet pea will be able to wear her snow clothes for more than one day this winter.

Well I am gonna jump off here and try to get some reading done while sweets is taking a nap.  I got a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas from my parents, and I absolutely love it!  Until next time, see ya guys later!!

Christmas 2012

Even though the new year has already begun I thought I would go ahead and squeeze this post in anyway.  My family is under the weather so we are all stuck in the house today.  Hubby has the flu and sweet pea is trying to fight some kind of bug off, me on the other hand am feeling fine, but just very sleepy since sweet pea refused to sleep at all last night.  Anywhoo, just wanted to give a little recap of our Christmas this year.

A few days before Christmas, mom, myself, my sister and the kids all had a day of baking fun.  We made about 5 different kinds and they were all delicious.  However I think we were all exhausted by the time it was all said and done!

My father in law came in town this year for Christmas so we celebrated with him and hubby's siblings on the Sunday before Christmas.  Sweet pea got Cinderella on DVD and the Cinderella and Prince Charming Little People from her paw paw and the outfit and accessories from hubs aunt and grandparents.  She loves dressing up like a princess!

After opening presents paw paw got to have a sweet moment with his grand kids while he read them a couple stories.  I think each one loved every minute of it.  We were very glad that we got to spend a few days with paw paw but miss him very much.  Guess we are just gonna have to make a trip to Florida!

Christmas Eve was spent with hubs side of the family at my sister in laws house.  I snapped this picture of sweet pea before we left our house.  My mother in law made her that jumper and it looks so cute on her!

 Sweet pea got so many things I think she was way overwhelmed.  The playroom has since been organized to accommodate all her new things.

When we got home we put some cookies and milk out for Santa which she loved doing.  The first thing she checked when she got up in the morning was to see if Santa drank his milk and ate the cookies, it was too cute!

Christmas morning we had a quiet time with just the 3 of us and sweet pea opened all her Santa presents.  She got a pink bike and helmet like she requested and also a DR. kit and the Elefun game.

Since we don't have a fireplace this was as close as we could get, cozy huh?!

After breakfast we lounged around a bit and let sweet pea play with her new things, then we headed to my parents house for Christmas lunch and more present action.  We dined on a delicious honey baked ham and all the fixins, and after we were all stuffed to the brim we opened presents.  Sweet pea once again raked it in and loved every minute of it.  Hubs and I fared pretty well too.  He got some OU stuff, gifts cards and money and I got my Kindle Fire, woohoo!

Sweet pea has loved playing with all her new toys and I am very grateful for that because I am still trying to get this house back in order after the holidays.

I hope everyone out there had a very Merry Christmas as well, and I wish everyone a blessed New Year. Happy 2013!

Christmas Pinspiration

First of all that I have to start off by saying that my heart is still breaking for the families of the victims of the shooting in CT on Friday.  I can't imagine the pain that they must be feeling right now.  I would be lying if I didn't say that I literally think about it all the time, and I have given my sweet pea more kisses and hugs in the past 3 days than I can count.  I will never be able to understand how someone could be so selfish to take the life of another, let alone an innocent child, and it makes me sick to my stomach every time I see those children's faces on the news or facebook.  I just pray for peace for the families, especially this time of the year, and hope that they know that the LORD is taking great care of their loved ones until they get to meet again.

On a lighter note, I wanted to share a few fun projects that I copied from pinterest this Christmas season.  I am sure most of you have seen the felt tree that is floating around pinterest and I knew the second that I saw it, that I wanted to make one for sweet pea.  I purchased the felt for the tree in the fabric section of Hobby Lobby and the felt for everything else came from there as well.  I first cut the shape for my tree and hung it on the door to sweet's playroom using some sticky dots.  Then I cut various sizes of presents, ornaments and lights out of the other felt.  Since felt sticks to felt I just stuck it all on until it looked right.  I did this at night, so when sweet pea woke up the next day she was so excited and literally started playing with it right away.  It was definitely a big hit and will be making a return appearance for years to come.

The next fun thing that we have been doing is also another popular pinterest activity.  I collected all kinds of books that had to do with winter and Christmas (most coming from the half price bookstore and some from scholastic at school) to wrap up, and sweet pea has gotten to open one every night since December 1st.  Its kind of like an advent of sorts.  She literally gets so excited every time she gets to pick one and when she opens it she always has the biggest smile and says "thank you thank you mommy"!  Melts my heart every time and was well worth the time and effort of finding the books.  She will get to open one until the 24th and on that night we will read "Twas the night before Christmas" which has been a tradition since I was little.

The third and final project is a wall advent calendar.  This large frame was already hanging on the wall in her bedroom with something else inside, but I took it down for the month of December and it got replaced with this advent calendar.  I got the idea to make the napkin pockets from Carmel over at Our Fifth House.  All I did to make the pockets was fold the napkins (cocktail that I already had) then taped them closed leaving only an opening at the top.  I found some cute Christmas stickers in the dollar bin at Joann fabrics and used them to decorate each pocket.  I then wrote the numbers on with a magic marker.  I attached some string to the frame using my trusty staple gun and then hung each pocket with mini clothespins.  I filled the pockets with assorted candy.

This is literally the first thing that sweet pea asks to do as soon as her eyes open in the morning.  She says "mom I need to get my candy".  It's probably not the best idea to give your child sweets as soon as they wake up in the morning, but hey it is Christmas so why not!

It turned out way cuter than I thought it would, so I think I will definitely have another go at it next year.  I just had to share this shot because that sweet little vintage reindeer used to belong to my grandmother who passed away this summer, and it makes me smile to be able to share her things with sweet pea.  Two of it's friends made it home as well and reside in other parts of the house.

As you can see pinterest has some amazing holiday projects circulating and has really gotten my creative juices flowing.  I just hope that I can continue these fun holiday tradition for years to come.  Well it's getting late so, until next time, BYE!

Christmas Kick-Off

Last Sunday sweet pea and I kicked off the Christmas season with a tree lighting celebration in my parents neighborhood.  It was the first year for the event, but they ended up having a pretty decent turn out.  It was freezing that night so we made sure to bundle up, and were very glad that they were serving hot apple cider.  Sweet pea seemed to enjoy it and all the homemade cookies!

Before they lit the tree we all sang Christmas carols led by a local church choir.  Sweet pea clapped at the end of each song and even danced a little.

Once the carols were over we counted down from 10 and then they lit up the big tree.  Sweets kept reliving the moment in the car the whole way home, it was real cute!  I tried to get a good picture of my parents with her, but she was too distracted to look at the camera.  Oh well, what can you expect from a 2 year old!

The tree looks beautiful and we have since driven by it a few times.  Whenever we are in the car at night and she spots Christmas lights she says, "Look it's Christmas time"!  It makes me smile, and I am looking forward to taking her for a drive to look at lights once it gets a little closer to Christmas.

We also kicked off a few new Christmas traditions as well today, but I will be back another time to tell you about those.  Well, my favorite Christmas movie "Elf" is on, so I am gonna say goodnight for now, but I will see ya next time, BYE!
